O. During the consolidation period, regeneration of the bone takes place at the distant distraction zone. The distraction zone or regeneration chamber lies within the medullary space and is surrounded entirely by healthy tissue. It lies within the functional matrix of the mandible and is stimulated to create new bone under function.

P. The implant is positioned with the transported, native bone. The fixture can be placed ten to twelve weeks after the distraction procedure. It is not necessary to wait until the distraction chamber fills with mature bone before the implant is placed.
