Maxillary Alveolar Distraction Osteogenesis

L. The vertical components of the osteotomy have consolidated fixing the segment in an immature union. Vertical projection of the crest is visible. Apically, the regeneration chamber is seen filled with immature bone.

M. The threaded rod was removed four weeks after the start of the distraction procedure. Union to the stable bone fixes the transport segment in place. Periapical radiographs can be used to follow the consolidation and maturation of the regeneration chamber. Vertical augmentation of the ridge is represented by the new bone forming between the two plates still in place.
